Executive Physicals Aren’t Just for Executives
If you’re anything like me, when you hear the word ‘Executive’ you may think of a high powered CEO somewhere in New York asking their assistant to pick up their dry cleaning. So naturally, when you hear the term ‘Executive Physical’ your mind tells you it’s not for the average person. However, that’s not true.
Judy Gaman, CEO of Executive Medicine of Texas states, “The term ‘executive physical’ is often misleading. It dates back to the types of exams that were often part of a company’s benefit package. While executive physicals are for executives, they are also for anyone wishing to get a clearer picture of their health. Our clientele also includes stay-at-home parents, retirees, celebrities, and athletes.”
WHAT IS AN EXECUTIVE PHYSICAL?
Executive physicals, like the ones offered at Executive Medicine of Texas, are half-day exams that consist of a variety of testing and blood work. Unlike your usual annual exam which is covered by insurance, an executive physical includes additional testing that is not usually covered by insurance companies. They also allow you to spend more time with the physician to voice concerns without feeling rushed. Most practices that offer executive physicals are cash pay and do not bill insurance. This allows them to give the patient an accurate price for their services, which means- no surprise bills!
WHY NOT JUST USE MY INSURANCE?
Although most insurance companies cover an abbreviated annual physical, the tests that are covered are often minimal and vary by age. Because of this providers become nervous while ordering additional testing as they don’t know if it will be covered by the patient’s insurance company. When that happens, the cost of these tests are left to the patient.
WHAT TYPES OF TESTS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN YOUR EXAM?
- Physical Examination
- Skin Cancer Screening
- Pap (Female)
- Prostate Exam (Male)
- Stool for Occult Blood
- Stress Test
- Hearing Screening
- Color Vision Screening
- Distance Vision Screening
- Fitness Assessment
- Cognitive Assessment
- Advanced Blood Work (ideally over 100 values)
